In the effort to index all these Star Trek pages, I've seen just about every type of them. It's sad that some people don't have a clue about what to put on their own homepage, much less on their Star Trek page. Here's the top ten things to avoid on your Star Trek page...

Top Ten Ways To Tell If You Have a S**ky Star Trek
Page

Top Ten Ways To
Tell If You Have A Su**y Home Page.
- 10. You displayed 50K+ of pictures/animations on FIRST page
- You may have a T-1 line, but rest of us still use modems...
- 9.
- self-explanatory
- 8. Your text is unreadable on top of your background
- translation: your background is too bright and/or fancy
- 7. Your page came up first as yellow text on WHITE background
- I know you have a space background GIF, but set
BGCOLOR="#000000" any way
- 6. Your ST page consists of 1 picture, a few links, & nothing
else
- That'a lot of appreciation you have for it...
- 5. Your ST page consists of exactly 1 page that scrolls on forever
- Don't you want people to see the end?
- 4. You used that same Enterprise picture seen on a dozen other places
- I thought you want to stand out from the crowd...
- 3. You borrowed pictures from other sites without crediting them
- Shame on you, you <censored> <censored>!
- Corollary: You then ask that exact same site to rate your
page (Yes, it actually happened here)
- 2. You have Yahoo's Star Trek section listed as your "More Star Trek Links" page
- Don't you have any favorites of your own?
And the number one thing to avoid on your Star Trek Page
is...
- 1. Your Star Trek page is named <Your Name>'s Star Trek Page
- Be a little inventive, will ya?
Further Suggestions
??. Having a Star Trek MIDI as background music for infinite loop, with no STOP button
There is little more annoying than this. I have run into some awful renditions of ST themes that would never shut up, and I was thoroughly enraged with the imbecile who did it. -- Duncan McFarlane
??. Using the wrong font
This is a personal pet peeve, but far too many fan sites out there use the horribly looking TrekMonitor font. Folks... That font is WRONG. Using it immediately shows you are an AMATEUR. The correct font is 911 Swiss Ultracompressed from Bitstream. It came with Corel Draw 4.
